Claude AI Review 2026: Excellent for Writing, Coding and Building—But the Service Experience Is More Complicated

How we reviewed it: This is a research-based review, not a claim of hands-on testing. We checked Anthropic's current product documentation and pricing, plus large third-party review datasets. Affiliate commissions do not affect Forge Scores.

Forge Verdict

Claude is one of the strongest general-purpose AI assistants available for writing, coding, analysis and structured thinking. Its current feature set is broad enough that many people can get serious work done on the free plan. The biggest caution is not the core model quality—it is the gap between strong product reviews and much harsher customer-service, subscription and usage-limit feedback on consumer review platforms.

Can Claude build a website?

Yes. Anthropic's Artifacts feature can create substantial standalone content including single-page HTML websites and interactive React components. Artifacts are available on Free, Pro and Max plans when code execution and file creation are enabled. Free, Pro and Max users can also publish Artifacts publicly.

🔥 Upcoming Forge Test: We are going to give Claude's free plan a real assignment: build a complete website from scratch. We will score the result for design, mobile usability, navigation, SEO basics, code quality, deployment difficulty and how many corrections it needs.

What Claude costs

Anthropic currently offers a Free plan at $0. Claude Pro is $20 per month in the U.S., or $200 billed annually (about $17 per month). Higher-capacity Max plans are also available for heavier users. Sonnet 5 is currently available to Claude users and Anthropic describes it as a major step forward in coding, tool use and professional work.

The review gap we found

G2 currently reports Claude at 4.6/5 from 215 reviews, with reviewers frequently praising its clean interface, writing quality, structured answers and usefulness for complex work. Trustpilot paints a dramatically different picture: its Claude profile currently shows 1.5/5 from more than 1,700 reviews, where complaints heavily center on subscriptions, usage limits, billing, refunds, account access and support.

That difference matters. It suggests the AI itself and the customer experience should be evaluated separately. A great model can still receive poor consumer ratings if billing, limits or support frustrate users.

What users consistently like

Recurring cautions

Who is Claude best for?

Writers, researchers, programmers, small businesses, students who meet Claude's eligibility requirements, and people who routinely work with long or complex information. It is especially attractive if you value structured reasoning and natural writing.

Who should think twice?

Heavy users who dislike variable usage limits should understand plan restrictions before paying. Anyone expecting perfect factual accuracy or fully autonomous software development should also keep human review in the loop.
